Target component

To study the reactions occurring inside stars in a laboratory, one needs to prepare a target.

The isotopes of some light elements, composed by a few protons and neutrons, such as carbon, nitrogen, oxygen or sodium, are used as target in nuclear astrophysics experiments . Before being irradiated by accelerated particles, the elements must be fixed on a support, such as tantalum. The production of an oxygen target is obtained by anodizing tantalum in an aqueous solution, using an anode and a special chamber.
